The Greater Portland Construction Partnership (GPCP) was incorporated in June, 2006 in Portland, Oregon. The GPCP’s membership is comprised of companies and organizations from all sectors that have a common interest in the success of the construction industry in the Portland area: Owners, Construction Managers/General Contractors (CM/GC), Trade Contractors (Subcontractors), Trade Associations, Architects/Engineers, Building Trade Unions, and Insurers.
The purpose of the Partnership is to enhance the construction industry’s performance in the Greater Portland area by sharing successes and best-known practices. While all areas of mutual concern are included in this process, the foundation of the GPCP lies in the area of Construction Safety.
The focus of this common safety effort is the proliferation of the Injury Free Environment (IFE) philosophy to all individuals associated with a project, regardless of their role or organizational affiliation. The GPCP is committed to a mind-set intolerant of any level, frequency, or severity of any incident or injury. This commitment is derived from a shared belief by the owners, contractors, trades, and insurers that every incident and injury is preventable and none are acceptable. The result is an environment in which safety is a value; a choice born not of the necessity to be in compliance, but because it is a way of life.
The GPCP believes the construction industry is comprised of many stakeholders whose fortunes are interdependent. Opportunities to increase performance and eliminate injury will be more likely realized when each group and organization actively seeks to understand how their actions affect the others. In the area of worker risk and safety, this is critical.
Training and education of the IFE philosophy provides the platform to accomplish the Greater Portland Construction Partnership’s mission…to bring Portland to a level of national prominence in the construction industry, renown as the most progressive and safest in the world.
